A police officer-social worker team tasked with providing case management services to individuals with high levels of repeat mental health related calls for service

Project Overview

  • To develop policies and procedures grounded in evidence-based practices to support the department’s effort to using force and arrest as a last resort when responding to mental health related calls for service
  • To reduce the prevalence of mental health related calls for service through a coordinated case management intervention consisting of sworn police officers and licensed clinicians
    • To utilize criminogenic and violence risk assessments to identify and prioritize treatment and case management services for individuals at risk for committing future crimes
    • To provide treatment recommendations and referrals to restore previous levels of functioning and prevent subsequent calls for service
    • To provide case management services to ensure stabilization and to modify treatment plans as needed
